AFL 2019: Carlton reportedly to delist Dale Thomas at the end of this season

Carlton has reportedly informed Dale Thomas that he won’t be given a new contract for 2020.

The 32-year-old was told on Wednesday his sixth season at Ikon Park will be his last, according to 7 News.

A delisting would leave Thomas either looking at a third AFL club or retirement after 256 senior games.

“I can 100 per cent confirm tonight that Dale Thomas will not play on at Carlton,” Mark Stevens said on Seven.

“He has been delivered the news that this will be his final season at the Blues. A tough call, he has been in good form.”

Thomas was confident he would be earning a new contract with Carlton when he spoke to Nine just two weeks ago.

“Hopefully I can go around again, I’m really enjoying it (and) as we see when you get a bit older, the discussion is whether to go on or not,” he said.

“I think it should be form-based and, without pumping myself up too much, I think my form’s certainly there to carry on.”

Thomas joined Carlton after the 2013 season, coming across from Collingwood where he played 157 games, was named an All-Australian in 2011 and was part of the 2010 premiership side.

Since coming to the Blues his form has been up and down but most have rated his 2019 as a solid year. If he is named in Round 22, it will be his 100th match in navy blue.
