The 32,000-strong crowd at the SCG went a little quiet when Melbourne fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen was knocked out in a sickening collision on Saturday.
The rookie No.1 collided with teammate Kenny Bromwich as both players attempted, unsuccessfully, to stop James Tedesco scoring a try in the dying stages of the preliminary final blockbuster.
Bromwich’s head caught Papenhuyzen on the point of his chin, and the latter was out cold immediately and seemed to begin convulsing on the ground.

The collision also split his chin open and it was bleeding badly.
Medical staff from both clubs attended to the player as the others paused to see how he fared.
Luckily, Papenhuyzen was able to walk off the field.
It continued a horror night on the injury front in what was a fierce and physical encounter between two NRL powers.
Mitchell Aubusson and Felise Kaufusi both earlier failed head injury assessments.
