Transfer Centre: Eels gun Dylan Brown locked in; Storm, Sharks hand out NRL lifelines

Parramatta has received a huge boost ahead of the 2020 NRL season following the re-signing of young gun Dylan Brown on a new, three-year contract.

The 19-year-old, who was off-contract at the end of next season, was the target of a number of NRL clubs but the Eels have ensured he’ll be wearing the blue and gold for at the least the next four seasons.

Brown moved from New Zealand to Parramatta as a 16-year-old and made his NRL debut in Round 1 this year.

He went on to play 15 games in his rookie season and gelled well with halves partner Mitchell Moses as the Eels made it to the NRL semi-finals.

“The signing of Dylan Brown aligns with our development club philosophy and we’re extremely proud of the person and player he has become today,” Eels football manager Mark O’Neill.

“We’re excited about the future ahead for our members and fans.”

Meanwhile, Ryley Jacks has rejoined Melbourne for the 2020 season after signing a one-year contract.

The 27-year-old played 25 NRL games for Melbourne across the 2017 and 2018 seasons before joining strugglers Gold Coast for 2019 and playing another 13 matches.

Jacks initially returned to the Storm on a train and trial contract and has been with the NRL squad since mid-November.

“It felt weird leaving (back in 2018),” he said.

“I didn’t feel like I’d finished here when I was walking out of the building.

“A year on it doesn’t feel too strange to be back.

“I always thought I would be back playing for the Storm. I’m so grateful to have another chance here in Melbourne.”

Meanwhile, Cronulla has handed an NRL lifeline to free agent Cameron King.

The former St George Illawarra, North Queensland and Parramatta hooker was on the lookout for a club after his departure from English Championship side Featherstone.

“I wasn’t sure I’d get another opportunity in the NRL, so I’m grateful to be back,” King said.

“It’s good to get here and I’m excited about the year ahead.”
