Highlanders break Brumbies hearts by snatching 84th minute win

In a blow for Australian rugby, the Brumbies have had their hearts broken by the Highlanders after conceding a try in the 84th minute to go down 23-22 at home in Canberra.

After Ryan Lonergan kicked the Brumbies to a 22-16 lead with four minutes to go the Brumbies attempted to run down the clock.

But as so often has been the case with Australian sides in recent history, the Brumbies were penalised with 30 seconds left on the clock and the Highlanders kicked to the corner.

After three straight penalties, Australian referee Nic Berry showed Cadeyrn Neville a yellow card and the Highlanders made the most of the numerical advantage as loose-forward replacement Teariki Ben-Nicholas crashed over. Josh Ioane made no mistake from almost straight in front to see the Highlanders steal the win and secure their fifth straight win over the Brumbies.

More to come.
