A US pole vaulter has gone viral on TikTok but paid a painful price for the fame, tearing his scrotum in the process.
Zach McWhorter, a 21-year old student at Brigham Young University, was finetuning his aerial abilities when he suffered the unfortunate injury.
“That one time the pole went through my **ts… 18 stitches later… RIP to my future kids, he posted in the video.
The post has gone viral, with McWhorter’s excruciating injury watched over 17 million times with over 35,000 comments.
It certainly was not a pleasant experience for the young aspiring athlete but he was fortunate to have his father, who is reportedly a urologist, on hand to allay his concerns.
“I could see right into my scrotum,” he told BuzzFeed.
“Immediately after the incident, we got in his car and drove to the hospital and he sewed me up.”
The sport of polevaulting comes with serious dangers, with the difference between breaking records and bones a matter of centimetres.
McWhorter learned the hard way but while it may hurt now, he should at least still be able to have children despite the injury and look back at the video and laugh.
